Dr. Atoosa Nikaeen, an orthodontist who treats Los Angeles and Santa Monica orthodontics patients, recently began offering In-Ovation L self-ligating lingual braces.

Nikaeen uses these brackets for limited treatment cases for aesthetic alignment of anterior teeth, such as lower teeth crowding or relapse cases. They cost less than some other lingual options.

Self-ligating brackets hold an archwire in place via a tiny metal latch this is built into the bracket.

“It is an excellent example of advanced orthodontic technology because it enables the teeth to shift into proper alignment faster and with less friction and discomfort,” said the Los Angeles and Santa Monica orthodontist. “They are designed to custom fit each patient, which provides the added comfort.”

In-Ovation L also enables orthodontists to have interactive control, meaning they can choose the level of control that is necessary for each treatment phase, Nikaeen said.

With the busy, fast-paced lifestyle so many people live these days, In-Ovation L has the added benefits of requiring less chair time to place the brackets, the need for fewer orthodontic appointments and shortened treatment time, according to the Web site for Dentsply GAC, the company that manufactures In-Ovation products.

Patients also are quick to turn to In-Ovation L brackets for aesthetic reasons. Because the brackets are bonded behind the teeth, they are not seen by others when the braces wearer speaks or smiles, said Nikaeen, a Santa Monica braces expert.
Food gets lodged in lingual braces less easily, which makes social situations less stressful. And if a bit of food does get stuck in the braces, it isn’t seen by anyone.
Regardless of the method used, achieving proper alignment of the teeth is beneficial to overall oral health, she said. Properly aligned teeth provide fewer crevices in which food particles can accumulate and they are easier to keep clean through brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups.
