Eagan and St. Paul Braces Expert to Observe National Children’s Dental Health Month

EAGAN, ST. PAUL AND MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – Dr. Jennifer Eisenhuth, an Eagan and St. Paul Braces Expert, will observe National Children’s Dental Health Month in February by educating students on oral care and reenforcing good habits.

Eisenhuth celebrates the awareness month each year by getting out into the community and into area schools to give away toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste, she said. She also speaks to classes on the importance of caring properly for teeth so children can keep them for a lifetime.

The campaign is sponsored each year by the American Dental Association and this year’s poster features a message for children from the McGrinn Twins, Flossy and Buck: “For a sparkly smile, remember to brush and floss every day!” on one side. On the opposite side is a message geared toward pre-teens and teens: “Rock your smile.”

Eisenhuth’s St. Paul, MN orthodontics practice shares the ADA’s vision of the campaign, and that is to make sure children understand the importance of oral health. The NCDHM message and campaign materials have reached millions of people throughout the country over the years.
“It is imperative to encourage and teach children about developing good habits,” said Eisenhuth, a St. Paul Orthodontist. “That, combined with routine dental check-ups and professional cleanings creates a strong foundation for what we hope is a lifetime of healthy gums and teeth.”
On Feb. 5-6, about 2,500 Minnesota dentals professionals will donate their time to provide free care to thousands of low-income children. This is part of a nationwide event known as Give Kids A Smile, which is held in conjunction with NCDHM. For more information on this, visit Minnesota Dental Association’s Web site.

NCDHM started as a one-day observance in Cleveland, Ohio on Feb. 3, 1941, followed by a one-week event in Akron that same month, according to the ADA.

The ADA created the first nationwide observance of Children’s Dental Health Day eight years later. It grew into a week-long event in 1955, and became a month-long campaign known by its current name in 1981.
