Smile Makeover

Perhaps it began with the plethora of “makeover” shows on television, but more and more people are becoming interested in smile makeovers. A smile makeover consists of one or more cosmetic dental or facial cosmetic surgery procedures performed to customize your smile.

It is no secret that the smile usually is the first thing people notice when meeting someone. A smile makeover can be as simple as undergoing a tooth whitening procedure or as extensive as getting porcelain veneers or fixing a gummy smile.

In some makeover cases, gum tissue plays an integral role in the success of the procedure. That makes it important to have a dentist assess the gum tissue prior to a procedure so that excess tissue can be removed, or minimal gum tissue can be built up to provide the best possible framework for the smile makeover.

These are examples of some procedures often performed during a smile makeover:

• Large spaces between teeth can be eliminated instantly with porcelain veneers such as Lumineers, or Da Vinci veneers. Orthodontics also may be used to move the teeth and close the spaces between them.
• Gummy smiles can be corrected by having a laser gum contouring procedure done to sculpt and remove a portion of the gum tissue to reveal more of the teeth.
• Professional tooth whitening procedures can be done to restore stained teeth to a bright white appearance.
• Botox and other dermal filler products can be injected to fill deep frown lines, smile lines or lips that have lost their fullness.
• Broken, chipped and missing teeth can be repaired using a variety of treatments that include dental bonding, porcelain veneers or crowns.
